Helping the Community Save Money and Energy in Their Homes and Businesses

As the Blue Horizons Project grows in reach, we are constantly searching for new ways to engage with our community in energy-saving efforts. That is why in the upcoming months we will be passing out information about our efforts at major local events as well as hosting workshops that can help you improve energy efficiency in your home or business.

Tuesday, July 31st: Energy Efficiency for Businesses

Duke Energy experts will be on hand to discuss the array of energy efficiency programs and technical assistance that are available for businesses in the Buncombe County area. Come learn how your restaurant, brewery, or small business, can be more efficient.

There will be two sessions: A Morning Workshop at 9 am, and an Afternoon Workshop at 2 pm. Both will be held at 200 College St. in the first-floor meeting room and are free to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Tuesday, August 7th: Clean Energy Workshop

This workshop will focus on reducing your grid energy use and supporting the community’s transition towards renewable resources. There will be lectures on energy efficiency, the efforts of the living building collaborative, and the greater strive towards zero net energy.

Friday, July 27th: MountainTrue presents Michael Franti & Spearhead

Michael Franti & Spearhead return to Asheville on Friday, July 27 to headline the Riverkeeper Beer Series at the Salvage Station for the second year in a row. The show is presented by MountainTrue and 98.1 The River, with proceeds supporting the work of the French Broad Riverkeeper – a MountainTrue program that serves as the primary protector and watchdog of the French Broad River Watershed.

Michael Franti is a world-renowned musician, filmmaker, and humanitarian who is recognized as a pioneering force in the music industry. Franti believes in using music as a vehicle for positive change and is revered for his energetic live shows, political activism, worldwide philanthropy efforts and authentic connection to his global fan base known as the SOUL ROCKERS FAM.

August 3rd and 4th: LEAF Downtown

September 3rd: Labor Day Weekend Festival

Save the date! Join us at the 15th annual LAAF: a festival by locals, for the locals.

This one day end of the summer festival hosted in downtown Asheville is an alternative creative placemaking experience where hundreds of local artists through a wide range of art installations, performances, artisan crafted goods, foods, beverages, and interactive education.
