Preparing for Fall and Winter
There’s a reason why HVAC companies are busier in the winter and summer! Folks tend to wait until they need AC or heat and something breaks and emergency repairs are needed. However, a little preventive maintenance can go a long way. With temperatures still warm, now is the perfect time to prepare your home for winter’s colder temps.
- Clean or replace air filters: Dirty HVAC filters restrict airflow and reduce the entire efficiency of the HVAC system. Ideally, they should be cleaned or replaced every 30-90 days depending on use, pets in the house, and if there are occupants with allergies or asthma.
- Be sure to seal any air leaks around windows, doors, and other openings.
- Ensure that the vents and ducts are clean, and air is circulating freely.
- Use curtains to help keep warm air in.
- Consider investing in a programmable or smart thermostat.
- Cycle off your heat pump or hot water heater during times of peak energy demand.
Most people don’t notice this, and it’s the number one thing you can do help reduce our peak demand. Duke will also pay you up to $175 in bill credits or referrals!

Save the date! Join us at the 15th annual LAAF, The Living Asheville Arts Festival: a festival by locals, for the locals. This one-day end of the summer festival hosted in downtown Asheville is an alternative creative place-making experience where hundreds of local artists through a wide range of art installations, performances, artisan crafted goods, foods, beverages and interactive education. It goes from 12 – 9 PM. Stop by our Blue Horizons Project booth to say hi and take our Buncombe County Energy Quiz.
September 8: Asheville Housing Fair
Join us at the Asheville Housing Fair!
The City of Asheville and Land of the Sky Association of REALTORS® announce the Fourth Annual Asheville Housing Fair, to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 8 at the First Baptist Church, 5 Oak St, Asheville, NC 28801. The event is free and open to the public. The Fair focuses on Affordable Housing options, including paths to homeownership and making the most of your real estate investment.
Representatives from local businesses and non-profits will be on site to provide information about affordable housing and financing options.
